Use of Force Conference, Spring 2007, New York City
"Carry the battle to them. Don't let them bring it to you. Put them on the defensive and don't ever apologize for anything"
–Harry Truman
American leaders of the 21st century face a complex world. They need to consider national security challenges from weak as well as strong states, proliferation of disease as well as proliferation of nuclear weapons, security at home as well as abroad.
Nor is security just a national issue. State and local leaders must also learn to address security issues, from pandemic flu and epidemic disease, to homeland security issues, capabilities of firemen, police, and other first responders, and relationships with their national guard.
The Truman Security Forum provides the foundations of national security understanding, so that leaders today, and the next generation of progressive leadership tomorrow, have a base from which to address these multifaceted issues.
