"You can always amend a big plan, but you can never expand a little one. I don't believe in little plans. I believe in plans big enough to meet a situation which we can't possibly foresee now."
–Harry Truman
Nuclear proliferation. Homeland Security. Bioterrorism. Contagious Disease.
The national security issues leaders confront today are diverse and challenging. To have a national voice, progressives must have policies that realistically address these tough national security challenges, and must be able to communicate our policies in ways that are compelling to the American people.
A strategic vision requires more than sound bites and rapid reaction. Progressives need a place to think deeply about our vision for the world, how we can protect America against threats, and where it may be possible to turn today's foreign policy challenges into opportunities to build a more peaceful, just, and stable world. The Truman Security Forum sponsors workshops and writing to propel over-the-horizon thinking that will drive the progressive movement for future decades.
The Truman Doctrine offers policy ideas on crucial issues of the day, crafted in language that makes sense to Americans.
