Executive Agency Training Program: Congress and Legislative Affairs

The Executive Agency Training Program:
Congress and Legislative Affairs

Featuring:
Bill Danvers, former Senior Director for Legislative Affairs, National Security Council
Will Davis, former Director for Global and Functional Affairs, Bureau of Legislative Affairs, Department of State

The Executive Agency Training Program is designed for leaders in their thirties and late twenties who have already been appointed to or are likely to receive key positions in the new administration – ex. deputy assistant secretaries, NSC directors and special assistants – but have never served in the executive branch. The series of 16 seminars and workshops are taught by current and past senior officials from Republican and Democratic Administrations, including John Hamre, Richard Clarke, Greg Craig, Marc Grossman and John McLaughlin. The program is intended to teach participants how the national security system works, nuts and bolts knowledge of the executive branch and practical skills required to be effective in the types of positions they will be filling. In addition to substantive training, a key objective is to build an interagency network to help staff better understand the role of other agencies and to provide the contacts needed to make government work more effectively.
